Just to those who are making the trip down to Invercargill. Have planned the following:
Friday 5.30-6.00 meet at the Invercargill Workingmens Club for drinks and a meal
Saturday 8.45 visit to the Bill Richardson Truck Museum, viewing is by appointment only, so we were lucky to get this, ($10 charge). After this we head down to Bluff which will take in a sightseeing trip up to the lookout at the top of Bluff-hill followed by lunch at Stirling Point which will be the starting point of the Tour. We will be heading to Dunedin sometime in the early afternoon. Anyone wanting to get in touch with me can on 032141244 or 0272034185. Looking forward to seeing the Capris in Invercargill. Cheers Tony
The only amendment to the previous itinerary is the change from Oamaru to Dunedin (2 nights) The reason is that I have received a number of calls from a large number of Capri owners at Dunedin who have mentioned that they would love to catch up with the Capri Club when it arrives. They will put on a Bar-b-q, take the tour out to Larnach Castle, plus other sites and points of interest of the region.
While in Christchurch Conrod Healy ( through his Ford contacts) is able to organise a "show and shine" with the local Ford agent.
Chris Thomson and his “team” will arrange sight seeing etc.
Mon 9th Nov
Assuming everyone arrives in town by late morning/lunchtime, Conrad has jacked up a Show 'n' Shine at Avon City Ford in Sockburn - looking at around 1pm ish. The Manager will give us his verdict on the Best Capri in the lineup......
Next stop will be a visit to the 200+ car collection of John Stewart, including several Bathurst model Monaros, Falcons & Chargers as well as more everyday models,
Dinner tonight will be a BBQ at Murray Wises home in Wainoni - a good chance to catch up over a few drinks and some food!
Tues 10th Nov
Arriving at the New Brighton car ramp at 9.30 am, we'll head for the hill, then go through it via the Lyttelton Tunnel, around the bays and over Gebbies Pass to the seaside resort town of Akaroa. Will spend most of the day here, taking in the sights (maybe some Dolphin spotting cruises if you like), returning to ChCh via a different route. That night, we'll head to a local Tavern (Parklands) for a reasonably priced meal and some more bevvies, before you have to head off to Hanmer Springs the next day.
Conrad may possibly be able to arrange to have morning tea with the Mayor of Amberley (A Capri Enthusiast), We pass through Amberley on our way to Hanmer Springs.
Friday 13th Nov
After crossing Cook Strait on Friday the 13th (hope your cars are insured) Conrod has organised a “Show and Shine” at the Ford Dealer where he works.
Venue: Capital City Ford, 97 Taranaki St (used to be Avery Ford).
www.capitalcityford.co.nz <www.capitalcityford.co.nz>
The time for the show and shine is from 1pm Nov 13, the boys will put on
a bit of a BBQ - so expect some snarlers sauce and bread. Couple of
hours before heading off to the pub maybe (after parking the Capris of
course...).
Saturday 14th Nov: is race day at Manfield. For those who are interested you are more than welcome. For those who wish to sight see there are plenty of options, Southwards Museum being just one.
As part of the 40th anniversary tour all club members are invited to visit a Capri museum in Feilding (a few minutes from Manfeild). The museum has been opened by club member Peter Willoughby. His collection will be open for viewing from 3pm on the Saturday.Venue: 249 Makino Road, Feilding. Phone 021 121 7859.
Saturday Evening: Following this all members, family and friends are invited to gather for a relaxed evening meal in Palmerston North from 6.30pm (sit down about 7pm) at Highflyers Restaurant and Bar, The Square, Palmerston North. We will be in the Bouvelard Room. The menu at Highflyers will cater to all tastes and budgets given November is likely to be an expensive month for many of us. Meals available will range from everything from bar snacks and pizzas through to some of the best steaks in NZ!
The Manawatu Capri Club has arranged the use of the car park in the centre of The Square - it will be closed to public traffic from 6pm - allowing us to display our cars safely. It is envisaged security will be provided from 6.30-10pm and the car park will also be locked to other vehicle traffic once all Capris are present. Please RSVP to Natalie your attendance for dinner as the chef requires numbers by November 6th. (nccampbell@xtra.co.nz or 021 414 665)
Those looking for accommodation while in Palmerston North please support the Braemar Motor Lodge. David and Natalie Williams are Capri Club members, Their advertisement appears in our latest magazine.
Sunday 15th Nov: is again, race day. This time we would like to see all the Capri’s at the track to participate and support the charity lunch time rides. All Capri’s are permitted to take lunchtime rides. This will offer huge exposure for our club, so more the merrier!
Just had a call from Ken Purcell questioning how many of our members are
considering participating in the lunchtime charity rides around the
track on Sunday the 15th.?
These rides are open for _all_ members who own Capris, not just members
It is not a race, there are no prizes. It just provides an awesome
opportunity to "showcase" our cars.
For those who are keen could you please get back to Ken asap with your
name, and details of your car. He does not require an "Enid Blyton"
story, just a basic rundown on year, type and basic upgrades etc.
These details will be passed on to the commentator to read out. You
will receive a number which will be attached to the side window so that
the commentator can match up the car type/owner etc.
I have had a number of queries regarding insurance etc. This is not a
competition! The cars will be following each other in line astern
slowly driving around the track. Anyone doing anything other than this
will be excluded from the track, if not by the organisers, by the club.
I believe this provides a fantastic opportunity to highlight our cars,
and our club, the more the merrier.
Those interested could you please get back to Ken asap ken-liz@slingshot.co.nz or myself flylionz@xnet.co.nz
Any questions? Please just ask.
Cheers, Lindsay. 027 276 5454
Monday 16th Nov: we head off to Napier, and maybe a winery (or two)?
Tuesday 17th Nov: we head of to Rotorua via Taupo. Two nights have been allowed for in Rotorua to sight see. We are able to provide accommodation, all linen supplied. $15.00 per person per night. See advertisement in the latest issue of Capri Capers.
Thursday 18th Nov: To Manukau (Auckland) Top 10.
Friday 19th Nov: to “Kauri Coast” Top 10 via Dargaville. Note: I’ve been advised by local members that this route is most scenic traveling North, rather than going up via Whangarei. We will be coming down the (Bay of Islands) East Coast.
Saturday 20th Nov: up to Kaitaia via Opononi, Cross the Hokianga harbour by ferry at Rawene, follow up the West Coast to Kaitaia, overnight at “the Park Top 10” at Ninety Mile beach.
Sunday 21st Nov: travel up to Cape Reinga, then return back to the “Park Top 10” at Ninety Mile beach, or continue on to the Top 10 at Keri Keri. (Time permitting?)
It’s at this point our Anniversay Tour officially ends, allowing members to either travel back in convoy or sight see, bearing in mind that there may be some members who have never seen the Northern part of the country.

I suggest that you print off this form, and use the contact numbers listed above to sort out/answer any enquiries you may have.
By using the above numbers and contacts, any person wishing to join the tour can make contact with any member on the tour, establish where the tour is at and join in.
I have had huge enquiry from non-members who own Capri’s that have expressed an interest in being a part of the tour. So, these people must be encouraged, the more the merrier.
It would be wise for all our members on the tour to download and print off Capri Club member application forms for Capri owners who link up on the tour who may be interested in joining our club.
Accommodation:
Top 10 Holiday Parks at each location have been advised that they will receive booking enquiries from our members. They await your call. www.top10.co.nz
Capri Club merchandise, clothing, stickers etc.
Please don’t forget we have Capri club clothing, stickers, name badges etc. These will be made on demand. Please don’t leave it to the last minute to place an order, otherwise you may miss out.
Time Capsule:
The time capsule will be carried by all our members for the duration of the tour. Among other things this capsule will contain, will be an updated list of all the current members of our club. If you were not current for the year 2008-2009 you will not be included.
We encourage photographs, bits “n” bobs, photo’s of the price of fuel etc. Anything relating to the tour and the Capri’s that will make interesting reading when the capsule is opened in 2050.
As I have previously mentioned there will obviously be hiccups etc… (Murphy ’s Law) But with a little “Kiwi style can do” I’m sure we will be able to easily sort out any issues.
Future e-mails:
As more information comes to hand (as it will) I’ll pass it on via e-mail, so please bear with me.
Above all, this tour should be fun! Hopefully it’s not too regimented; it was not intended that way. It allows the flexibility for members to sight see, link up with other members, especially our South Island “team”, and also to show off just what fantastic cars our Capri’s are. This tour will certainly attract a lot of interest. We have had interest from Capri members from Australia saying that they also want to a part of it.
So team, that’s about it for now. The weather is getting warmer and the days longer.
(about time!!)
This tour should really be a lot of fun. If that’s not the case…….. check your pulse….. you might be dead???
