Hi all,
Well this is the final update for our weekend. The weather forecast looks great, so it should be a "goodie"
Many thanks for all those who confirmed their AGM meal bookings, really appreciated. The confirmed numbers stand at 74... great response!. The AGM meal will be a full buffet, same as previous years. The cost of this meal is $40 per person, however the club will subsidise $15 to those who have confirmed their booking leaving a cost of $25.00 for each of these members. Could these people please pay their money to Adele during the weekend well before our dinner as the last thing she wants to do is run around chasing up money when she could be enjoying her meal. If you could do that I know she would really appreciate it.... besides, the last thing I want to do is sleep with a grumpy secretary!!.... ok??.... thanks. Those of you who have not pre-booked please make your arrangements directly with Suncourt.
I have forgotten to mention prize giving on previous updates. Prize giving will be immediately after dinner before Mike John's talk.
If you currently have a trophy/s could you please bring them, or arrange to have delivered in time for our prize giving.
The Concours: The Concours will (as previously mentioned) take place on the Rotorua Village Green before the Targa Tour.
Could only those members who have Concours type vehicles please enter. This will save the judges a huge amount of time.
We have a member, Graeme Dixon coming up from Dunedin especially to be a part of our AGM weekend. We caught up with Graeme way down South during our Capri Anniversary Tour. I'm picking him up from Rotorua Airport and bringing him down to Taupo Friday afternoon/evening. He is staying on in Rotorua with us for a fews days after the AGM. Graeme would dearly love a ride through the Targa Tour, so if anyone could oblige I know he would really appreciate it. Let's really show them how we do things in the North Island!!!
The Targa Tour. I have printed off Targa maps and an itinerary for the Saturday, I'll pass them out either on Friday eve, or Saturday Morning before we leave. This stage 5/6 is being run in reverse from previous years, the start being at Lake Rotoma. Just a thought however?. If you were intending to run through this stage twice, you could take passengers to the start, safety requirements state only one passenger, so you could drop off the other passenger, he/she/they could wait there (approx 1.30hrs) until you come back to the start. (I can think of worse places to wait, right beside the lake - it's probably one of the most beautiful places in the North Island). You could then take the other passenger through. On your return back to Rotorua you could then pick up the waiting passenger/s.......something to think about?.
Targa Tour numbers currently stand at 18....another great response. If you have not indicated that you would join in, but suddenly change your mind, no worries...join in. But please bring a tow rope, a fire extinguisher, a 1st aid kit and an emergency triangle.... those are the basic Targa safety requirements.
Track Day: Entries have really climbed over these past few days, I guess they have seen the great weather forecast too. So this is really shaping up to being another spectacular day as well. I know Brian is still looking for assistance for the day- it does not take too much to wave a flag.
Well that's about it team, See you on the weekend.
Cheers, Lindsay 027 276 5454
Hi all,
Well, our tourist season is slowly winding down enough for me to focus more effort towards the things I really enjoy - our club, and our cars.
Unfortunatley it seems I won't have enough time to repair my own car in time for the AGM weekend, damn!! So it will have to be a winter project.
Anyway, The AGM weekend.
The Suncourt will once again provide the venue for socialising, accommodation, meals the AGM etc. To make bookings contact Alanna Finnie, alanna@suncourt.co.nz The Concours will, once again, be on the grass, alongside SH1 out the front of Suncourt.
The proposed (draft) itinerary for the weekend will be......
*Arrive at Suncourt on Friday the 4th..... socialising that evening.
Saturday the 5th of June.
Leave Taupo at 09.00am and travel in convoy direct to Rotorua's Village Green, the Targa base. (Opposite Novatel)
On arrival at the Green, line our cars up for our Capri Club concours in an area not conflicting with the Targa cars or their crews, but adjacent to them. (this I believe will provide huge exposure for our club as there will be a captive audience/spectators watching the Targa cars)
At approx 11.00am the first of the Targa Tour cars will arrive from the morning stages. We could have lunch during this time.
At approx 12.30pm (after lunch) we will follow, in convoy, the Targa Tour cars out of the Green and travel 41kms towards Kawerau to the first of the afternoon stages.
The Targa stage we will drive is Special Stage 5... Manawahe (check Classic Car magazine). It's 36kms long, and it's a beauty. I've done it a number of times before and it would be my Rotorua Targa favourite stage.
After doing this stage we will head back to Kawerau with the Targa Tour chaps for a 40 min break.
After the break we can either return and do the same stage again..... way to go!!, or those who feel that they may be "adrenalined out" can either wait for us at the end of the stage, or drive back to the Villgae Green and wait for the rest of us there.
Once we have completed this stage the 2nd time we will all head off in convoy with the Targa Tour chaps back to Rotorua, arriving back at the Village Green at approx 1615hrs to line up for a show and shine, just like we did in 2008, but earlier in the afternoon (and hopefully warmer) this time.
After the show and shine we can head back to Suncourt Taupo at our leisure.
For those of you who do not know what is involved in a "Targa Tour" as opposed to the actual competitive Targa, I'll try and explain.
The stage (road) is closed to all other traffic, there is tape across driveways etc stopping all traffic. The road is yours to cut corners, and drive as you please etc.
There is no passing the cars in front; you must travel in line astern. The lead car dictates the pace, but you can drive more slowly if you like.
This is not a competitive tour, there is no timing, there are no numbers on the doors, hence your vehicle will be insured. You are able to take one passenger.
Your car will require a first aid kit, a safety triangle (supercheap $5.00) a firmly fixed fire extinguisher, a tow rope.
Because my car will not be ready for the AGM I really thought that I'd be watching all you other lucky people. But I must now say a huge thanks to Nelson Marshall, for not only offering me a Capri, but has trusted me with his RS3100 for the weekend....... a RS3100!!!!......Jeeeezz.
Many thanks Nelson. It's members like yourself that makes this club what it is.
*Saturday evening..... Socialising at Suncourt.
*Sunday morning..... 8.00am. scrutineering then track Day at Taupo Motorsport park, in conjunction with the Taranaki Car Club.
*Sunday evening.... AGM Suncourt, Prizegiving. socialising.
*Monday morning..... Traditional farewell breakfast at the Taupo lakefront.
In the meantime, while I sort out the Targa side of things, I'd strongly suggest that those of you intending to stay at Suncourt get in early. So team, that's about it for now. More AGM info etc will be coming out in the next mag. Don't forget to make your accommodation bookings with Alanna Finnie alanna@suncourt.co.nz It would be sad to miss out. It's shaping up to be a boomer weekend.
Those of you who know of club members who don't suscribe to this forum, could you please let them know of our AGM plans. (mind you, they have been reminded enough)
So that's about it team. Hope this is enough for you to start planning your weekend. I'll be in touch again next week when I know more.
Cheers, Lindsay. 07 357 4087 flylionz@xnet.co.nz
