Thursday night allows people for out of the area to motor up ready for the start of the tour, Gloria and Reid in Edgecumbe happy to have guests, as are David and Jacqui Scadden in Rotorua. Daves Note: remember to stock up on liquid refreshments as NO BOOZE SALES on Easter Friday !!

Friday 2nd April 2010 - Good Friday: Depart 2 Konini Place Edgecumbe 9-9.30am.

Meet Tauranga members on the outskirts of Whakatane.

Travel via the Heads, up Hillcrest through Ohope to Opotiki, where people fuel up, have a coffee, toilet stop etc before heading up the Coast.

Next stop Maraenui Hill lookout. - Advise drivers of the Motu one-way system.

Lunch stop at Pacific Coast Macadamias at Whanarua Bay, where we will have a table and lay out the lunch which Reid & Gloria will have organised. Purchase your own drinks from the café.

Head on around the coast to the Raukokere Anglican Church where we stop and take in the sight and look inside.

Waihau Bay fuel up if required.

Saturday 3rd.April 2010: Easter Saturday

9am Depart Hicks Bay and head down the hill and visit the Manuka Factory shop and do tour if required - cost is $7 per head and will take half to three quarters of an hour.

Te Araroa take the turn off to the School and at the front of the school is the oldest and largest Pohutukawa Tree in the country.

Tikitiki Church with its famous tukutuku panels is on the right as you come into Tikitiki. Visit the church.

Ruatoria - 3ks each way if anyone requires fuel or to say you have been there done that.

12.30-approx Tokamaru Bay, head to the wharf and photo shoot in the vicinity, head back along this road to the Te Puka Tavern where they do bar meals. Fuel available along the bay if required.

Busbys Hill they are creating the new road so expect some metal roads around here.

Anarua Bay 3ks each way is a beautiful bay with 2ks of curved sandy beach backed by native bush covered hills.

Tologa Bay plenty of cafes and petrol if required. Visit the famous wharf on the way out of town.

Stop at the lookout from Tatapouri - Makorori for photo shoot etc.

Head into Gisborne and go to Captain Cook Motor Lodge via Custom House Street -to point out Cooks Statue and also Young Nick then book in.

After breakfast 9.30ish

Depart the accommodation; go for a tour up Kaiti hill to the reserve.

Visit the East Coast Museum of Technology

Have lunch and visit a wineries in the area.

 

 

Monday 5th April 2010

Say goodbye to those going further down the coast depart to Opotiki via Matawai - where we stop for a great hamburger and coffee. Toilet not in the café, but just down the road.

Waioeka George - stop at the Start for a photo shoot and read the plaques etc.

Stop at Mangatuki on the right side if toilet required. Next stop the Tauranga Bridge - a single span harp suspension bridge spanning 60mtrs, one of only two in NZ - 10 minute walk each way.

Make our way via Opotoki to our respective homes... Again accomodation available at Reid and Glorias or the Scaddens in Rotorua....
